High demand for more adequate bike parking at transit stations was a key finding of the DVRPC Bike to Transit Survey that the Bicycle Coalition collaborated on, and has helped to provide information to SEPTA and PATCO to improve bike parking at their many urban and suburban stations.
According to the SEPTA Sustainability Journal, the Authority will be installing or expanding covered bike parking at select regional rail stations starting in 2016. The installation is part of SEPTA’s $3 million, 3 year program to implement the SEPTA Cycle Transit Plan.
While some bike parking sites will be placed under covered areas of stations, others will receive new bike shelters similar to an existing one at Temple University Station.
The Selected Stations are:
- Jefferson Station
- Suburban Station
- University City Station
- Fern Rock Transportation Center
- Fox Chase
- Torresdale
- Ambler
- Bryn Mawr
- Downingtown
- Glenside
- Langhorne
- Norristown Transportation Center
- Strafford
- Warminster
Kudos to the SEPTA’s Sustainability team for carrying through on their commitment to make biking to transit easier, more convenient and safer. We are delighted that this long term project has finally come to fruition and we are anxiously awaiting more details in the near future!
What can be done for those who have difficulty carrying our bikes up or down the steps of a railroad car?
