The Bicycle Coalition’s of Greater Philadelphia’s Vision Zero 2017 Conference takes place on March 1st at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, and will bring together leading experts, elected officials and members of the public to share opportunities and best practices for creating local roadways that respect all human dignity and eliminate traffic deaths.
“The Bicycle Coalition’s goals for the third Vision Zero forum in Philadelphia are to illustrate the challenges to making city streets that respect human dignity and to highlight what the city can and will be doing in the long and short term to address those issues,” said Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia Executive Director Sarah Clark Stuart.
The conference’s program will begin with opening remarks from Stanton B. Miller, founding director of the Jefferson Center for Injury Research and Prevention, who will speak of what the health community is doing to treat and prevent injuries. Conference-goers will also hear from Channabel Morris, who, since her son’s deadly bicycle hit-and-run crash in Spring 2016, has become a fierce advocate for better engineering through Vision Zero policies at the state and local levels, successfully advocating for an extension to Pennsylvania’s red light camera program alongside the Bicycle Coalition, AAA, and Neighborhood Bike Works.
Other sponsors and panelists at this year’s Vision Zero Conference presented by Uber include AAA, St. Christopher’s Hospital, Delaware Valley Smart Growth Alliance, the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Transportation and Infrastructure Systems, PennDOT, the Philadelphia Police Department, SEPTA, AARP, Parsons Brinkerhoff, Associacion Puertorriquenos en Marcha, AECOM, NV5, University City District, Urban Engineers, Johnson, Mirmiran and Thompson, PenTrans, PHMC, Michael Baker, Pexco & American Traffic Solutions.
Members of these organizations will discuss how best to work together to address Philadelphia’s traffic problems and bring the city’s road deaths and serious injuries down to zero, by 2030, a goal set by Mayor Jim Kenney in his November 7, 2016 Executive Order.
