Earlier this summer, almost 400 Bicycle Coalition members, supporters and advocates told Mayor Michael Nutter, Council Members Squilla and Johnson, and the Streets Department that the status quo is not acceptable. Washington Avenue is dangerous. It needs to be made safer, and it’s well past time that it happens.
Here’s what that advocacy has done: On Thursday, September 3rd, a meeting will be held to discuss how to make Washington Avenue safer. It will be attended by staff from the Streets Department, Planning Commission, Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities, members of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, and, hopefully, you.
We’re inviting you to join us at this public meeting, which is being held at The Rock School for Dance Education so you can make your voice heard on why you want a safer Washington Avenue. That meeting is open to the public and all are welcome.
But before that, we are inviting you to attend a preceding orientation that the Bicycle Coalition is hosting to answer any questions you may have about the future of Washington Avenue and our goals for the corridor. For those who want it, we will have printed talking points to help you participate in the Sept. 3 public meeting.
The orientation session will be held at Tattooed Mom on South Street on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 6pm.
