On Sunday, September 22, 2024, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia (BCGP), Indego, Block Gives Back, FJ Myers Advisory Council, Ridge, Alleghany, Hunting Park Association, Ethio Philly, and Global Thinking Inivisitave hosted our 4th annual Indego Family Fun Day to celebrate the amazing work our Indego Ambassadors have done from May through September at the Discovery Center in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia.
Every year Indego recruits a new group of ambassadors to get more people involved in biking in Philadelphia, specifically using Indego bikes. These ambassadors are nonprofit organizations that provide services to disinvested communities in the Philadelphia region. They work with our BCGP Better Bike Share Partnership (BBSP) team to host a combination of Learn-to-Ride Classes and Community Group Rides. The goal is to get people on Indego bikes that reflect the demographics of our city, representation matters.
This year we held it at the Discovery Center, located in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia, which is part of East Fairmount Park. If you haven’t been there, I highly recommend making a day of it. We hosted three group rides visiting the historical mansions, hosted a scooter rodeo for toddlers, and a hula hooping workshop, and provided resources from our ambassador’s organizations to attendees. When it came to food, we had a halal food truck serving up some falafel gyros and rice combo plates with the red and white sauce for the first 50 attendees for free. Overall, we had a great turnout from the community and the partners we worked with this year. We could not have impactful and inclusive educational biking programs without our BBSP team and Indego Ambassadors. Intention, representation, community, and free biking programs are the key to our success.
