On Saturday, December 23, at noon, there will be a “Ghost Bike” Dedication for Emily Fredricks at 11th and Spruce. All are welcome to attend.
Fredricks, a pastry chef who worked in Center City, was killed while riding her bicycle to work on November 29. In the bike lane at 11th and Spruce Streets, she was right-hooked by a private sanitation truck.
Since the crash, members of Philadelphia’s cycling community have reacted overwhelmingly, organizing human-protected bike lanes, a vigil, memorial rides, and other advocacy in Emily’s honor.
The Bicycle Coalition has been in touch with the Fredricks Family and are working to make sure positive changes to city streets can come from her passing.
On Saturday, the Fredricks Family invites Philadelphia’s entire cycling community to come out and remember Emily as we dedicate a Ghost Bike to 11th and Spruce Streets in her honor.
Fredricks’ family has set up a Facebook invitation, and we ask that everyone come out to remember Emily, and to show your support for better, safer bicycle infrastructure.
The bike is being donated by Neighborhood Bike Works, a nonprofit organization in Philadelphia, and the law office of Stuart Leon will help prepare the bike for the dedication.
