Pennsylvania cities and towns lack the ability to install parking protected bike lanes and pedestrian plazas — something other states have been benefiting from for years. Protected bike lanes keep cyclists safe, increase cycling as a form of transportation and recreation, and help curb climate change.
Due to a technicality in the PA Vehicle Code, cars are required to be parked within 12” of a curb. The Pennsylvania Legislature needs to pass legislation to update the language to make it easier to install Parking Protected Bike Lanes and Pedestrian Plazas everywhere in the state. Pennsylvanians should benefit from these proven, life-saving tools and keep pedestrians and bicyclists safe!
We’ve successfully gotten the bill that will make this change through the PA House of Representatives with a 200-1 vote!
Advocacy is working — but we need you to call the Pennsylvania Senate TODAY!
The Senate’s last session day in September was Wednesday and the Transportation committee did not meet. But they are likely to meet when they come back into session in late October.
Let’s make sure this legislation, House Bill 792, is on the committee’s agenda and all committee members vote YES on HB792 and help bring this across the finish line!
We’ve set up a page on our website with the Senate Transportation Leadership contact information and a script of what to say.
Click here to pledge to help us advocate for better infrastructure in Pennsylvania. When you submit the form, you’ll be redirected to the script.
We ask you to pledge so we can follow up with you about updates to the campaign, as well as track the number of callers. Thank you for taking action!
Please make separated bike lanes in every Township, and in every town, and every County.
