2019 continues to be an active period for Circuit Trails construction in our region. The latest project is the Upper Bucks Rail Trail; 40 miles from Central Philadelphia was a milestone for Bucks County as it is the first County sponsored groundbreaking for a Circuit Trail. Construction will commence in October and should be complete by the summer of 2020.
The event was hosted adjacent to the trail at the Richland Township Fire and Rescue by Commissioner Rob Loughery and included numerous speakers. Lehigh Valley Area PBS 39 ran this 3 minute news clip and also received mention on WFMZ TV (Reading).
The trail is planned in the northernmost segment of the future Liberty Bell Trail and will be part of the PA Highlands Trail. More immediately, it will connect with the 9-mile Saucon Rail Trail at the Lehigh County Line as the Borough of Coopersburg will be simultaneously extending their segment of the trail to the County Line at the same time. The Saucon Rail Trail is part of the LINK Trail Network, a 225 mile trail network in the Lehigh Valley that was inspired by the success of the Circuit Trails.
Later this fall, County officials expect to break ground on the Newtown Rail Trail in Upper Southampton Township which will connect with the Pennypack Trail in Montgomery County.
The Upper Bucks Trail dark green dots will connect with the Saucon Rail Trail to Hellertown, PA.
