The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, our partners, and volunteers, handed out 450 bike lights on Monday night to cyclists in South Philadelphia.
Coalition staffers and volunteers were out at 4th and Snyder, and 21st and Christian, for our annual bike light giveaway, held every year the week after Daylight Savings Time ends.
This year’s Bike Light Giveaway could not have happened without our sponsors, including Stuart Leon Bicycle Law, the Bicycle Club of Philadelphia, and Councilman Mark Squilla, who donated to the Bicycle Coalition so we could get the lights.
Police officers from the Third and Seventeenth District came to our locations, too, and helped give out and install bike lights on cyclists’ bicycles. The Police Captain of the Third District actually stopped by our location at 4th and Snyder to help out throughout the night, which we appreciate.
Remember: Being seen while biking at night is essential, especially as the days grow shorter and more people are riding at night. PA law requires a front light and a rear reflector or light when riding before dawn or after dusk. Bicycle Coalition members can also purchase bike lights at one of our 20+ partner shops for a discount. Patronize your favorite shop, or look at our member discount page to find a shop that offers discounted accessories!
