On Wednesday April 24, we attended the ribbon cutting of a new Schuylkill River Trail (SRT) segment in Pottstown, PA. Montgomery County Commissioners were on attendance along with representatives from Pottstown Borough and several state and county agencies. The new trail offers great views and access to a lovely spot on the river that is full of adorable little islands.
Montgomery County Planning Commission has already begun work on the next segment downriver, which will connect to the existing 422 Bridge sidepath, crossing the Schuylkill River into Chester County. With the Chester County Planning Commission is supervising design of the SRT there, we’re getting closer to the day when Philadelphia and Reading will be connected by a continuous trail!
This is both exciting and significant because if you count permanent on-road sections as part of the trail, it only leaves TWO missing links between Reading and Philly: the one mentioned above which is being worked on, and the lower end of Manayunk. There is a pie-in-the-sky in place for the latter too. In less than five years what was once a pipe dream could become reality. How about that.
How do you get to the Pottstown part of the trail from Conshohocken?
Hi, here’s a link to the downriver end of the trail, which is right next to this “sportsplex”
