The Bicycle Coalition, Vision Zero Alliance, and Javsicas Family will host a Memorial Walk on Thursday, June 29, in Center City, Philadelphia. The walk will be in remembrance of Peter Javsicas and all recent victims of traffic violence.

Mr. Javsicas, a transportation advocate and former Executive Director of PenTrans, was killed by an out-of-control driver earlier this month on JFK Boulevard.

The Bicycle Coalition and others have been working to promote already-planned changes to JFK Boulevard and Market Streets in Center City, and Javsicas’ death is more evidence that something needs to be done to make those streets safer.

“Javsicas’ tragic death was a terrible reminder that engineering changes need to happen on JFK Boulevard,” says Sarah Clark Stuart, Executive Director of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. “That’s why we’re calling on the Mayor and City Council to install new traffic calming measures, as already recommended by a Center City District report.

The walk will take place at 5pm on June 29. Our group will meet and rally at the Comcast Center at 1701 JFK Boulevard, and travel about one mile through Center City before ending at Dilworth Park.
