Bicycle CoalitionThis past weekend, hundreds of cyclists participated in Bikes and Beers in Somerdale, NJ, which is the home of Flying Fish Brewing Company.

A portion of the proceeds from the event benefitted BCGP, and we had a table set up to give out trail maps, garner signatures for our 500/2025 petition, and compare notes on the suds on offer (they were excellent).

BCGP’s Regional Planner Leonard Bonarek was on hand to help lead the 15-mile ride. In his duties “riding sag” (holding up the rear), he had the privilege of meeting Daphne from North Jersey.

Daphne had driven down with friends for the event, and signed up for the ride despite: having not ridden a bike in 10+ years, having never ridden more than a few miles at a time, not being familiar with the area, and being on a borrowed bike.

Hundreds head out for a few hours of fun in the sun.

Despite these challenges (and a bike seat that was initially way too low), Daphne was able to finish the ride, which was a major accomplishment given the challenges she overcame.

Stay tuned for more fun events this summer and fall!
