Tonight, Kayleigh Kern will have an opportunity to do some private shopping at Di Bruno’s for an hour with the $125 gift certificate she won as the raffle winner of the Women Bike PHL campaign. Anyone who donated over $10 to our intern funding campaign had a chance to win this prize.
The fundraising campaign took place this past spring. The money raised went to hiring and paying an intern (me! Thank you to everyone who donated!) and to supporting the summer programming of Women Bike PHL.
Some background info about Women Bike PHL: it was founded in 2013 by former Better Bike Share Outreach Manager Katie Monroe. It is a Bicycle Coalition program aimed at decreasing the barriers to biking for women, who bike at one third of the rate as men, in Philadelphia.
The initiative does so by providing programming that encourages and supports women and meets the unique needs and concerns of women cyclists — such as safety issues, sexism in the bike community and disproportionate childcare responsibilities, to name a few.
