After completing a new segment of the Delaware River Trail (DRT) from Fishtown to South Philly, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is working on an extension of the trail north. This new segment will stretch between Penn Treaty Park and Lehigh Avenue, including a connection to the future Graffiti Pier Park. DRWC has developed a community-inspired vision for this newest trail segment which can be viewed here. See our recommendations below before providing your input on the vision by completing this very quick survey here.
The vision includes a connection to the DRT via the Richmond Industrial Trail/Lehigh Viaduct. This envisioned connection will be critical to ensuring residents in Kensington and Port Richmond have a safe, off-road connection to the DRT and the Circuit Trails network.
We recommend that you select #2 to prioritize safety improvements in the Aramingo Ave/Delaware Ave intersection to make getting to the DRT safer and #6, the creation of the Richmond Industrial Trail. If you’d like to keep up to date with the Richmond Industrial Trail, sign up for the project-specific mailing list here.
We also recommend showing your support for closing the gap in the DRT between Lehigh Ave north (up to the existing trail at Allegheny Ave) with protected bike lanes and trails (see below) in the section of the survey for general feedback to the planning team.
If you are interested in learning more about the vision for this segment of the DRT and other traffic safety concerns in the area, please RSVP for Fishtown Walk, Bike and Roll: Transportation Safety Open House Round Two hosted by the Office of Transportation, Infrastructure, and Sustainability on Saturday, Nov. 18th. The event includes a bike ride at 9:30am and a meeting at Shissler Recreation Center, 1800 Blair Street, from 11am – 12:30pm. RSVP is required for the bike ride portion.
We hope you will show your support of the Richmond Industrial Trail/Lehigh Viaduct and improvements in the Aramingo Ave/Delaware Ave intersection to make getting to the DRT safer in your feedback at the meeting as well.
