The City announced on Friday, March 10th that Martin Luther King Drive Bridge, located between MLK Drive and Eakins Oval, will begin reconstruction activities and close completely to all users on Monday, March 27th. The Schuylkill River Trail beneath the bridge will remain open during certain stages of the construction.
When construction activities are scheduled to occur over top of the trail, the trail will be temporarily closed for several months. A trail detour will be posted directing travelers around the work area. Advanced trail closure notification will be given via a future press release when schedule information is available.
Signs will be posted on Monday, March 13th to announce the closure. The bridge will remain closed to all users until Spring 2025 for all construction and rehabilitation.
Along with the City’s detour, we have published our own detour. We have shared it with the city and it is our hope that is considered as an alternate route to the City’s approved detour. Read more below or via the project website.
