In honor of our current Member Drive, we’re highlighting some of the amazing community members that we’re proud to count as Bicycle Coalition members. We hope you’ll see yourself in their stories, and learn some great local biking tips from them.
Today we’re excited to shout-out Amanda Crawford Staub, who is a new member!
Name: Amanda Crawford Staub
Where do you bike?
I used to commute to Center City from Fishtown almost every day, but since switching to a work-from-home role I love riding recreationally, mostly along the Schuylkill River Trail.
What’s your favorite thing about biking in our region?
I love that there are so many protected trails and opportunities to ride without worrying about live traffic. It’s really a gift that MLK Drive shuts down every weekend from April through October!
What’s your favorite local route?
I co-organize a 250 person overnight bike camping trip each year called Bikeout, and we ride from the Art Museum to a farm near Phoenixville, PA. It’s a beautiful ride, mostly along trail ways, and a great celebration of the biking community here in the city!
Name your favorite bike accessory.
I love the cheap cell phone holder I bought for my handlebars, it allows me to easily pull up RideWithGPS or play music.
What’s your favorite on-bike or post-bike snack?
Trail mix! It’s super easy to make, easy to customize, and the mix of protein and fat makes for a satisfying snack.
Why did you join the Bicycle Coalition?
I joined the Bicycle Coalition because I think it’s important to to advocate for cyclists in Philadelphia. There’s still more work to be done in making our city even more friendly and supportive of cyclists, and I love that the Bicycle Coalition provides easy and actionable ways to get involved.
