Kickstand Crew is a social bicycle club based out of Hammonton, NJ. I started the club in 2017 to give people a reason to dust off their bikes and hit the streets. I wanted to start an inclusive club that welcomes everyone—young, old, expert, or novice. The club also advocates for safer streets for all non-motorized forms of transportation. There’s no better way to make people realize that streets could use safety improvements for bicyclists and pedestrians than getting them out of their cars and on to their bikes!
From April through October, the Crew rides every month during Downtown Hammonton’s Third Thursday events. The rides are typically only a few miles and take the group around to the town’s various bars and three breweries. One Saturday per month, we take a longer ride to visit a variety of local events and attractions. In spring, we host a Hammonton Wine Tour that brings the riders to some of the many wineries around town. In fall 2017, Kickstand Crew organized a Tweed Ride fundraiser that brought in over 30 riders to the event. Between ticket sales and a raffle of local donations, we raised enough money to provide bikes and helmets to three middle schoolers to get them to and from school and after school jobs.
Entering into the second year of the club, we hope to continue this welcoming spirit and attract riders from around the region to join in the fun. We also plan to take the club out of Hammonton to see what other bike friendly towns are up to. Follow KickstandCrew on Facebook and Instagram to see what we’re up to and join in on our inaugural ride of 2018 on April 19th!
Looks great and fun. Best to all!!!
