Big things are happening at The Bicycle Coalition Youth Cycling Program this Spring. Check it out!
New Building at the Education Center!
We are excited to welcome a new century-old historic gas station to the site of our office in Fairmount Park at the Sedgley Porter House (see news coverage of the move and footage from the late night transportation of the building here). The building was moved from its previous location at 20th & Arch Streets and will soon settle in to be additional space for our team to use. The gas station was donated by the Parkway Corporation to the City of Philadelphia and the move (also underwritten by Parkway) was conducted by Wolfe House & Building Movers. Come by and see us and check it out!
BCYC is Growing! This spring we have 11 Youth Cycling Teams and over 200 Youth Registered
Our recruitment campaign was a big success, with over 200 completed applications from young riders across the city. We are excited to welcome so many new members into our community. For the 2023 Core Spring Season, we’ve grown to 11 sites, including 8 high schools, 2 middle schools, and one community center. These sites are: Grover-Washington Middle, Northeast Propel Middle, W.B Saul High, Multicultural Academy Charter School, Central High, Kipp Dubois, SLA Beeber, Boys’ Latin, Mastery Pickett, Kensington High, and Neighborhood Bike Works. We’re thrilled to be working with such a great group of sites this season and can’t wait to see what our riders will achieve.
Amazing Coaches
We’ve also recruited 21 coaches who are passionate about sharing their love of cycling with our young riders. Our coaches are the backbone of our program, and we’re grateful for their commitment and dedication to our community. We spent two beautiful Saturdays getting our coaches trained up. We can’t wait for you to meet our awesome, engaged coaches!
