BCYC is excited to return to in-person events in 2023 including the BCYC Criterium Race at Hunting Park that took place May 20th. Participants demonstrated their exceptional talent and unwavering determination. Rain or shine, our BCYC community showed incredible dedication.
34 youth athletes from 10 BCYC sites raced and made the event a memorable spectacle. Students raced loops in Hunting Park, through the rain. For many youth, this Crit Race was their cycling race event and an opportunity to learn more about the sport of cycling and meet student athletes from other schools. Students in each category podiumed and all students challenged themselves to finish the race.
Our volunteers and esteemed coaches played a vital role in making the event a success, from cheering to marshaling
corners and officiating. A big shoutout goes to our supportive BCYC alumni 5 came out in full force to inspire and encourage the next generation of cyclists. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the 25th Precinct Police Department and Officer Barksdale for ensuring the safety of our youth by closing the entire park during the event.
