Dr. Alison Conway is an Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the City University of New York, and the Associate Director for Education at the University Transportation Research Center. She is also an associated faculty member of METROFREIGHT, a Volvo Research and Education Foundation Center of Excellence in Urban Freight, and the chair of the ASCE Transportation and Development Institute’s Freight and Logistics Committee.
Alison will join Gus Scheerbaum of Philadelphia Streets Department, Michael Ruane of DVRPC, and James Gill of Athena Contracting for Saturday afternoon’s first Planning Opportunities and Challenges breakout session, discussing how cities can manage freight effectively to maintain safety in urban environments.
Alison has worked on a variety of projects related to freight management in New York City, including a guidebook that she co-wrote about freight management and complete streets design, and 7 common challenges that trucks face in complete streets. Her knowledge of best practices utilized in New York City will help shape the conversation about how Philadelphia can manage our increase in freight traffic while also increasing traffic safety.
