On Friday, May 19, 2023, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and Independence Blue Cross hosted a Bike To Work & Wherever Day celebration with an Energizer Station at the Penn Museum and three group rides:

  • Council Member Jamie Gauthier and Deputy Managing Director of oTIS Michael Carroll co-led from Penn Museum;
  • State Senator Nikil Saval and Council Member Mark Squilla co-led from 6th and Washington Ave; and
  • State Representatives Donna Bullock and Malcolm Kenyatta co-led from Broad and Oxford St.

Around 100 Philadelphians joined the rides, which converged at Dilworth Plaza for a press conference where the ride leaders, elected officials, Sarah Clark Stuart (Bicycle Coalition) and Steve Tremblay (Independence Blue Cross) emphasized the importance of equitable access and safe infrastructure to support the City’s robust cycling population.

The Bicycle Coalition would like to thank Independence Blue Cross for their continued commitment to safer cycling in the Greater Philadelphia region through Bike Month activities and outreach, as well as jawnt, Backyard Beans, Effie’s Homemade, First & Wilson Transport Cycles, the Penn Museum, Penn Department of Transportation, Penn Bike Commuters, the Philadelphia Police Department, and Lora Reehling Photography.
