This years Vision Zero Conference works to address inequity in our transportation systems. For the first plenary of the day we will highlight the recent federal infrastructure funding and its impact on vision zero and racial equity.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) was crafted to provide direct funding opportunities for cities and regions to address inequities created due to past transportation projects. The law places an emphasis on investments into historically disadvantaged neighborhoods. This plenary session will dive into how local agencies are leveraging millions of dollars in federal funds to create safer streets for all modes and to reconnect neighborhoods divided by freeways built decades ago. The speakers will discuss how agencies are implementing projects with an equity framework including community partnerships, workforce development, and capacity building for minority owned businesses.
The panel will be moderated by Ariella Maron, Executive Director of DVRPC and featuring Michael A. Carroll, Deputy Managing Director of oTIS and John Chin, Executive Director of Philadelphia Chinatown CDC. It will run from 9am-10am and be followed by a 30 minute networking session.
