Bike shops are allowed to remain open through the City of Philadelphia’s new pandemic guidelines, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia confirmed with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health on Monday.
The City of Philadelphia issued new guidelines for the once-again out-of-control COVID-19 pandemic on Monday, which include new restrictions on some indoor businesses and gatherings. These guidelines, however, will not have an effect on bicycle shops throughout the city.
Considered retail stores, the new guidelines allow bike shops to “continue to operate, but with a maximum density of 5 people per 1,000 square feet. The City will require these stores to enforce mask use and distancing of customers and staff.” Read the full guidelines here.
What’s that mean for you, if you need your bike serviced at your local shop? Nothing. These are the same guidelines that have been in place through most of 2020. Earlier in the spring, we helped advocate for bike shops to be included on the list of approved businesses in Pennsylvania, and shops have been operating in a safe manner ever since.
If you need to make an appointment at your local bike shop, be sure to check out their website and give them a call.
