The trail was finished. Almost.
It hit a snag when NJ Transit and Burlington County couldn’t come to legal terms on a key crossing of the Rt. 130 Bypass Trail at the NJT River Line tracks. After months of litigation (and significant pressure put on both sides by Bicycle Coalition and other member organizations of the Circuit Trails Steering Committee), NJ TRANSIT and Burlington County signed an access agreement.
NJ TRANSIT will begin construction of the $1.3 million trail crossing in coming weeks and hopefully will complete the project this fall. This will complete the Delaware River Heritage Trail 130 Bypass section. When it opens it will be the longest Circuit Trails project completed since the Chester Valley Trail project in 2013. The trail extends from Route 130 in Bordentown to the historic Roebling Museum in Florence.
This is the first victory for the Circuit Action Teams, who seek to get 500 miles of trail completed by 2025. We were in persistent communication with NJ TRANSIT and Burlington County encouraging both organizations to come to a resolution. With this feather in our cap, we will work with our Circuit Coalition partners to identify another goal for the Burlington County Action Team for completion by 2025.
Great news….thank you….
This article made me so happy that I became a member of the Bicycle Coalition. Thank you for advocating on behalf of cyclists in Burlington County.
Thank god. Something of value we can all look forward to and pass on to future generations with pride!
