Philadelphia will elect a new mayor in 2015, and we want you to be a part of the process.
That’s why we’re teaming up with other organizations who care about safe and accessible modes of transportation to host a mayoral forum later this spring. We are inviting all mayoral candidates running for office in Philadelphia to gain a better understanding of where they stand on the issues.
At the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, we care deeply about where our next mayor and City Council stand on bringing our sidewalks into good repair, connecting the bikeway network and adopting a Vision Zero policy—and which candidates are most likely to implement these programs, all of which strengthen our economy and make our city more appealing.
These issues are detailed in Better Mobility Philadelphia 2015, a platform that was drafted last fall and put out for public review and comment (including a November listening session.) The platform is being finalized and will be posted very soon.
The Better Mobility Working Group—comprised of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and others including Penn Future, Bike Share Philadelphia, the Clean Air Council, the Pennsylvania Environmental Council, Feet First Philly, PenTrans (and potential others who are currently in the process of deciding on a formal endorsement of the Better Mobility Agenda)—will co-host the forum with Philadelphia magazine on March 19 at the Friends Center, from 6pm to 8pm in the large auditorium.
Moderated by Philadelphia magazine Deputy Editor Patrick Kerkstra, the forum will allow citizens to hear where Philadelphia’s mayoral candidates stand on transportation policy, infrastructure, and all the issues covered in the Better Mobility and Safer Streets reports. We hope to see you there.
