As October comes to a close, we want to share some exciting highlights from this month and our 2023 Fall season. It’s been a journey filled with learning, adventures, and youth development.
We engaged 57 youth athletes from four of our partner schools, KIPP DuBois, Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia, Multicultural Academy Charter School, and Kensington High School, along with our All Star Mountain Biking Team! We are proud of all of the athletes for showing up and committing to six weeks of cycling skill building, team dynamics, group riding, and more! We also want to take a moment to give a special thank you to all of our BCYC Coaching Staff and School Support Staff, as they play the most integral role in ensuring our youth are supported throughout the season!

Youth Advisory Council (YAC) at Outward Bound:
This month, we had the privilege of hosting the YAC orientation at Outward Bound. We introduced our five YAC members to BCYC’s expectations and outlined our plan for their personal and leadership development. Over a series of eight sessions, we will cover essential areas, ranging from Effective Communication and Conflict Resolution, to Community Outreach and Advocacy. We engaged in team-building activities with our Outward Bound instructors. We took part in an indoor climbing session that allowed us to challenge ourselves, and we’re proud to mention that Daaamir, Azalea, and Justin excelled at it. We shared some delicious pizza and wrapped up the day with one last group activity, strengthening our connections and teamwork.
PICL/NICA Mountain Biking Event in Fair Hill, Maryland:
To cap off our Fall season, we participated in the PICL/NICA mountain biking event at Fair Hill, Maryland. This event was the culmination of the interscholastic league, and we had four of our all-star participants representing BCYC. They had the opportunity to ride on pristine trails and take part in an adventure quest, collecting coins throughout the trail. Afterward, we gathered to watch the award ceremony.
Stay tuned for more updates and adventures as we look forward to the upcoming winter season. Until then, keep those wheels turning!
