On December 13th, the USDOT announced its 2023 Safe Streets for All (SS4A) grant awards to local communities for the implementation of safety projects, safety planning, and demonstration activities driven at the local level to improve safety and help prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways. In New Jersey, communities in Burlington and Camden counties were awarded Planning & Development Grants to develop a Safety Action Plan. In Pennsylvania, communities in Chester-Upland and southeast Delaware County received funding for Safe Routes to School.
The funding helps communities address roadway safety through a comprehensive approach that uses all types of interventions, which aligns with DOT’s National Roadway Safety Strategy. These funds will help tackle the preventable crisis of deaths on the nation’s roads through safer people, roads, and vehicles, appropriate vehicle speeds and improved post-crash care.
