Classes & Rides

The Coalition offers a variety of cycle rides that are meant to highlight our education & advocacy efforts. We also offer classes aimed at encouraging new or less-experienced bicyclists to get comfortable riding in the city.

Please view our Public Calendar to see a complete listing of our classes & events!

Adult Learn-to-Ride

This 2-hour class teaches adults how to ride a bicycle. (Mature teenagers can also register if accompanied by an adult.) Dedicated Bicycle Coalition volunteers lead participants through steps that teach balance, pedaling, starting, stopping, and steering.

“I was in your learn to ride class … I just wanted to say thanks again.  You were all really great teachers and I was so excited that I finally learned how to ride my bike again.  I guess all I really needed was some confidence and a little bit of practice. I appreciate how supportive everyone was, it really helped to make me feel comfortable.” ~Tina

Explore the Circuit Rides

These rides venture out along stretches of the expanding Circuit Trails and are usually in the 15-20 mile range. These are not athletic competitions. These rides are designed to be informative & enjoyable ways to learn more about this growing trail network.

Review our Public Calendar to learn when these rides are scheduled (typically one Saturday each month, from April thru October). We hope to see you on one!

Discovery Rides

Our Discovery Rides are easygoing, social rides that help to showcase interesting and/or informative features of our community.

Please review our Public Calendar to learn when rides like these are offered throughout the year!

Urban Riding Basics

Urban Riding Basics

This 60-minute workshop provides riders who are new to cycling in the city — or those want to learn to ride with more comfort and confidence — with the knowledge to start bicycling safely around town. We cover everything you need to know to have fun and be safe when riding a bike in Philly. Topics include rules of the road, lane position, urban hazards, helmets and gear, locking a bike, and using your bike on public transportation. Bicycles not required.

Please view our Public Calendar to see a complete listing of our classes.

Holiday Lights Ride

Each December, since 2014, the Coalition has led a nighttime ride through the South Philly neighborhoods known for their (occasionally elaborate!) Holiday Light displays. At the end of this ride, we typically re-warm ourselves by gathering for good cheer & holiday spirits!

Other Rides
Cyclofemme2

We periodically lead rides, often in conjunction with one of our campaigns. Our rides are generally for all experience levels, and do not require special gear or training (they are, however, BYO-bike). We also partner with other organizations and bike shops on bike rides. All rides are posted on our calendar and advertised on our blog.
