On Friday, May 5th, The Bicycle Coalition, operator of the Bartram’s Garden Bike Hub, hosted a Family Bike Friday event in partnership with PHA/Bartram Village, Bartram’s Garden, Safe Routes Philly, Indego and the Better Bike Share Partnership, with the goal of bringing what the Bike Hub, Indego and Safe Routes Philly have to offer to nearby Bartram Village.
At the Family Bike Friday event, over 33 young people got to explore life on 2 wheels. Our youngest riders, 2-10 years of age, rode around a basketball court that was turned into a traffic garden and received support to learn to ride or to further develop their bike handling skills. For the older youth, Our Bike Hub Manager, Jack Kavanagh, led group rides exploring the Bartram’s Mile, part of the Circuit Trails. Youth explored the Bartram’s gateways, visited the Bartram’s Bike Hub and practiced placing their bikes on a SEPTA Bus bike rack.
You, too, can enjoy the joy of biking at Bartram’s Garden.
Join us at the Bike Hub every Friday 3-6pm and Saturdays 10am-2pm.
The Bike Hub offers a rotating list of classes and rides including:
- Free Bike Rentals to use at the gardens
- Learn to Ride Classes for Kids and Adults
- Beginner Bike Rides of the Bartram Mile
- Bike Maps and Info about Bike Safety Materials in English, Spanish, Simple Chinese, Russian, Haitian Creole & Vietnamese
More info about classes and rides as well as registration are available on the Bartram’s Garden online calendar.
#Shoutout to all of our parnters who made this event a success. An additional thank you goes out to AmerisourceBergen for donating a kids bike that was raffled off and went home with a young person, Sameer, who has 2 new wheels to ride!
