For Bike Month this year, we were pleased to offer Bicycle Coalition supporters the chance to win a Retrospec Ascent mountain bike (courtesy of our friends at Keswick Cycle)—we are deeply grateful to all those who so generously gifted their support, whether for the first time, renewing support from last year, after a hiatus, or for twenty years running, and pleased to announce our lucky winner!

We also asked several runners-up to drop by our offices for some gear and tell us a little more about why they support the Coalition:

James Midkiff

“I support the Bicycle Coalition because I want everyone to have the freedom to get where they’re going safely—and biking is just fun!”

Margie Graham

“Biking is completely necessary in Philly—that’s it!”

(A Champion of safe cycling who requested to remain anonymous!)

“Active travel is not only good for our health, but the health of the city. I support the Coalition because bicycles are the most fun and efficient way to improve quality of life in Philadelphia.”

And the grand prize winner for the Retrospec Ascent is….

Jessica O’Neil

Biking to work is usually a highlight of my day and my partner Kyle and I have loved getting to know Philly over the past few years by biking to new neighborhoods, restaurants and bars. Bike commuting saves us money, time and is honestly just fun. We joined the Bicycle Coalition after I stopped at their booth on Bike to Work day and learned of all the real and meaningful work the organization is doing to make Philadelphia a safer place to bike. Like a lot of Philadelphians what matters most to me is making the city safer for bicyclists, scooters, pedestrians and everyone else.

Thank you again to all who made such generous gifts, who rode with us and made some time to share what you think is important—what we hear again and again, over and above utility and despite all obstacles, is that cycling is a source of joy, peace, and well-being, which is exactly why the mission to make our streets safe, reliable, and welcoming is so important.

(Even if you missed the giveaway, this is still a great time to join or renew  your membership! Now through September 6th, Piscitello Law will match all donations up to $5,000 in order to properly outfit Coalition youth athletes with bikes and helmets. That means your donation of $10 becomes $20, $50 becomes $100, $500 becomes $1,000. Most importantly, your tax deductible gift means more youth in more schools on more bicycles. We’ve already raised over $4,000—a donation today will double your impact!)
