There’s great news for the future of green space, trails and recreation for Delaware County residents! In late October, the County announced that 43 projects were awarded funding, totaling $7.1 million through the Delco Green Ways Grant Program.
Of the $7.1 million, the Circuit Trails have been awarded $2.4 million which will bring funds to new connections, open space acquisition and planning and design.
The Delco Green Ways Grant Rounds were announced back in June of this year. During summer, the Delaware County Greenways Team evaluated and ranked over 70 applications prior to announcing projects that were awarded funding.
From now until December of this year, the Delaware County Planning Department will assist grantees with grant finalization, agreements and technical support moving forward.
Beginning next year, grantees will begin pursuing DCNR and DCED funding using county grants to match funding. Below is a list of the projects along the Circuit that have been awarded funding. The full table of awards can be accessed here.

- Walkable Chadds Ford Project (Connects to the Brandywine Conservancy Trail) – $500,000
- Crozer Park – Chester Creek Trail – $500,000
- Valley Forge to Heinz Refuge Trail / Radnor Trail Extension – $407,454
- Darby Creek Trail Connectivity Project – $407,375
Conserve (Open Space Acquisition) Projects:
- Chester Creek Rail Trail Phase III Property Acquisition – $500,000
Planning and design project recommendations:
- East Coast Greenway Connectivity Feasibility Study (Tinicum Township) – $100,000
- Newtown Square Rail Trail Feasibility Study – $85,000
