For the Vision Zero Conference we host two all conference plenary that take place at the beginning and end of the conference. This year our plenaries will focus on local and state legislative efforts to make our streets safer.

The morning plenary is all about Traffic Calming as a Community Effort. We will showcase a range of local efforts to bring traffic calming measures into neighborhoods around Philadelphia.

In order for Vision Zero to become a mainstream program and be successful in eliminating traffic fatalities residents, legislators, planners, and other community leaders need to work together. Our first plenary will dive into two traffic calming projects, discuss the challenges, the vision and how Philadelphia can the projects scale up to improve safety all across the city. The panel will be moderated by Rick Sauer, Executive Director of PACDC. Speaking on the panel will be Council Member Jamie Gauthier; Deputy Commissioner of the Streets Dept, Richard Montanez; Anne Dicker, President of West Mount Airy Neighbors; and Teea Tyne, North Philly neighbor and HACE member who currently serves as an Ambassador for the Lehigh Avenue Safety Project.

Wrapping up the day will be a plenary on the Future of Automated Traffic Enforcement in Pennsylvania. With the recent expansion of the Automated Speed Enforcement program, Philadelphia now has an arsenal of enforcement tools to make our streets safer.

Using technology to assist with traffic enforcement can seem like a no-brainer in the world of problematic ‘speed traps’ and traffic stops but the move from the old way to using automated and AI technology has shown to be full of challenges. How can successful life saving programs expand to meet the needs of Philadelphia and other municipalities? The panel will be moderated by Associate Professor and Director, Cm2 University Transportation Center at UPenn Erick Guerra. Speaking on the panel will be PA House Transportation Chair Representative Neilson, State Senator Kearney from Delaware County, Lauren Alden, Director, Independent Living Services at Liberty Resources, Inc, Jenna Fortunati from Hayden Ai, and Latanya Byrd co-founder of Families for Safe Streets Greater Philadelphia.
