Each year we partner with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), PennDOT District 6, and the four suburban counties in the Philadelphia region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties) identify roads that are good candidates for bicycle facilities.
In April, we published the Bicycle Friendly Resurfacing Program–How to bring bike lanes to Southeastern Pennsylvania GIS Storymap that covers the process in more detail. We’ve included a list of projects that have been completed as well as the list of projects that are in the pipeline below.
In 2022, PennDOT resurfaced Ridge Pike (SR 4031) in Upper Providence and Limerick Townships and in the Borough of Trappe with 3.4 miles of new bike lanes and sharrows.

The results include 27 miles of bike lanes and shoulders added since 2019. Two additional projects have been completed since we last reported on the status of the resurfacing program. Looking ahead, there are 11 projects that are in the pipeline that are underway in 2023 to 2024. Stay tuned for updates from the DVRPC as they continue to coordinate with PennDOT on the 2023 resurfacing projects in Southeast Pennsylvania.
