This blog is part of our year-end “Why We’re Thankful” series, highlighting the Bicycle Coalition’s—and your—accomplishments of 2014.
Cadence Youth Cycling joined the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia in October 2013, and the organization connecting West and North Philadelphia students to the leadership and responsibility that goes along with competitive cycling, has never been stronger.
Cadence has grown substantially since its 2007 inception. It currently serves 12 teams in North and West Philadelphia, impacting 130 youth. Cadence youth increase their physical fitness and well-being through cycling practices and nutrition education. Each cycling practice incorporates teaching life-skills, such as teamwork, perseverance, and goal setting. Cadence youth are student athletes and our programming helps juniors and seniors prepare for college through SAT prep courses and college workshops.
Cadence Youth Cycling participation is expected to continue rising in 2015—and, if the Project 250 Velodrome becomes a reality, Cadence will be given a brand new space in a new section of the city to work with Philadelphia’s youth.
The Bicycle Coalition and the people of Philadelphia couldn’t have made this accomplishment happen—or any of our accomplishments, for that matter—without your help. We need your participation to continue our work in 2015 and beyond. So, if you’re not yet, consider becoming a member of the Bicycle Coalition by clicking the button below.
