A graduate of the Restaurant School, Director of Development Alan Spooner began his culinary career in Philadelphia and New York, and then cooked his way out west.
In Colorado he began biking the Boulder Creek Path to his job at the Bistro Morgul Bismark. When he moved to California, he worked as a pastry chef at the renown restaurant Chez Panisse in Berkeley and became a motorcyclist. One motorcycle crash and career change later, he began working at a non-profit in support of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
He has over 20 years of fundraising experience consulting and working with non-profits, most with a sense of advocacy and burgeoning capital campaign just starting up; such as the GGNRA’s Campaign to Replant Crissy Field in San Francisco, the SFSPCA’s Roberts Animal Care Center, and the campaign that created the newest branch in the San Francisco Library System – Mission Bay. In 2005 he returned to Philadelphia to purchase a house in Fishtown and began commuting by bicycle again, cycling to his job as a fundraiser at The Wistar Institute on the Penn campus before joining us at the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia in 2016.
