The new alignment of the Schuykill River Trail in Norristown. The existing trail is to the right of PECO power line towers.

According to an official press release from Montgomery County, the Schuylkill River Trail will be closed from Sunday, May 6 (in the evening) to 6 am on Saturday, May 12, from Ford St to Swede St (Norristown Transportation Center) in Norristown.  The trail will be relocated about 30 feet south to make room for road widening and landscaping on the Lafayette Street Extension Project.

The viaduct that carries the existing trail will be demolished east of DeKalb Street to rebuild part of the trail in its new location. The main advantage of the complete closure to trail users is that we condense all of the work into one week, rather than detour the trail for 10-12 weeks.

Users who are comfortable riding on the street can use Lafayette Street between Ford and Swede Streets. It’s a 10-15 minute walk if you are on foot.
