On Saturday, September 19, riders of all ages from across the city gathered at Sedgley Porter House for Roll Wit It: Fun Ride and Challenge, presented by Hand and Stone. Together we rode a collective 1,466 miles, raised over $25,000 in support of the Bicycle Coalition Youth Cycling (BCYC) program and its scholarship fund, and shared many smiles on a gorgeous late summer day.

As riders checked in at Sedgley Porter House, BCYC alum and scholarship recipient Terrell Bundy got busy on the decks. Beginning with The Works, each ride cohort rolled out together, their routes taking them towards Manayunk, with some riding all the way to Valley Forge National Historic Park and beyond. We are proud of our three BCYC youth who conquered the 70-mile route and returned grinning, ready to do it again!

Returning riders were greeted with food and drink, a shady place to sit, and a celebration of our 2026 Youth Athlete and Coach of the Year.

Youth Athlete of the Year: YaNia Strawberry

This year’s Youth Athlete of the Year is YaNia Strawberry, a mountain biker and student at W.B. Saul who has ridden with BCYC for three years. YaNia was recognized not only for exemplifying the program’s values, but for her commitment to her teammates and their success. BCYC Program Manager Habib Faye recounted how, despite an injury that left her unable to ride a bicycle, YaNia continued to show up for practices and competitions to cheer on her teammates and support them in their growth. An active member of the BCYC Youth Advisory Council, she has helped to grow civic engagement among BCYC youth, traveling to City Council to speak in support of expanded transit access for Philly youth.

In her acceptance speech, Strawberry traced a lesson from each year in the program as she learned how to navigate the hard and easy stretches, injury, and shifting how she can participate in the program. Strawberry spoke passionately:

“This past year I learned that shifting and changing isn’t always a bad thing, it won’t look like what you imagined but it’ll be just as good if not better in the end. I want to thank all my coaches for teaching me not only how to mountain bike, but how to live.”

Coaches are the backbone of the BCYC program, nurturing our youth athletes on and beyond the bike, and creating supportive bonds that last for years. The “Coach of the Year” award was created in 2025 to recognize and honor the commitment and dedication of our coaching staff.

The 2026 Coach of the Year awardee, AC Flemingramsey, consistently goes above and beyond for the youth athletes in her care. Coach AC is known for calling all of her students “her babies” and sees BCYC as a “community that feels like a family.” Known to be fair, firm, and always ready with a warm welcome, she spoke on what drives her work with BCYC riders every day:

“My driving force is that when people come in contact with me, I want them to know that somebody has truly cared about them. That they can do better and they can do more. We can do it.” – Coach of the Year: AC Flemingramsey

Thank you to Presenting Sponsor, Hand and Stone!

Roll Wit It wouldn’t roll without its presenting sponsor, Hand & Stone: Massage and Facial Spa. Hand & Stone’s support powers BCYC’s mission of building healthier, more confident young people.

“Hand & Stone is proud to sponsor Roll Wit It and support the Bicycle Coalition’s Youth Cycling program right here in Philadelphia. Wellness and community go hand in hand for us — after a ride like this, we want every rider to know there’s a place nearby to relax, recover, and take care of themselves. We’re honored to help these young athletes keep pedaling forward.”  — Sherrill Kaplan, Chief Revenue Officer, Hand and Stone

In addition to their presenting sponsorship, Hand & Stone generously provided a prize pack with massage and facial for a post-ride raffle: Congrats to Julia Maass!

Even more gratitude to:

Roll Wit It wouldn’t be possible without the support of BCYC coaches and families, and Bicycle Coalition Board members, staff, and volunteers — thank you to everyone who helped with event set-up, staffed aid stations & check-in, marshaled rides, flipped burgers, and stayed to clean up.

About the BCYC Scholarship Program

The Bicycle Coalition has proudly awarded nearly $400,000 in gap scholarships to graduating BCYC seniors over the past nine years. The scholarship program invests in our youth, their future, and their dreams off the bike with needed financial resources as well as a network of social support stemming from their dedicated mentor. Scholarship recipients remain connected to BCYC through summer employment opportunities, internships, mentorships, and more. You can read about some of our scholarship recipients here and here.
