Experience a car-free North Broad Street on Saturday, August 3rd! Philly Free Streets, which is a free event, invites people to walk, bike, roll, and play in a space that is usually filled with cars. Riding free of car traffic is usually limited to the trails or MLK Drive on the weekend, but Philly Free Streets expands those opportunities and allows participants to reimagine how city spaces can be designed and used.
North Broad Street, from Arch Street up to Erie Avenue, will be closed to car traffic from 8am-1pm.
The Bicycle Coalition will be located in the Vision Zero Safety Zone near the intersection of Broad Street and Glenwood Avenue. Learn about bike safety, including the following:
- Bike ABCs – Review Air, Brake, and Chain so that you’re ready to ride before you get on a bike.
- Label the bike – What does each bike part do and why is it important that they work together to stay safe?
- Helmet fitting – Learn to do a quick helmet fitting check.
- Bike Nice – How do you respect other road users and increase your visibility and predictability on the road? We’ll have tips on how to be courteous to pedestrians and communicate with drivers and other bicyclists.
The Vision Zero Safety Zone will also have helmet fittings and giveaways, while supplies last.
Don’t have a bike but interested in riding? Indego has you covered. For a limited time, use code INDESPIN19 to purchase one month of an Indego30 pass for $10 or $4 for an Indego Access Pass.

Very nicely done here! A terrific guide in an of itself, but the pop-ups from the icons that mark the spots along the way are especially helpful, charming. A hearty congrats on the effort put in to this. Best guide I’ve seen, and makes you want to participate. ~ Bicycle Coalition Member
