Our first annual ProfiteROLL, a pastry scavenger hunt in honor of Emily Fredricks, is taking place on April 15th. The self-guided, take your time ride can be started at any station along the route, and FREE sweet treats will be offered to registered riders at every participating station.
We just announced the route, which totals 14 miles and features eleven stations offering sweet items such as pastries and cookies.
Here are the local businesses that will be honoring Emily and contributing to the fundraiser:
- Cake Life – This Fishtown bakery boasts accolades such as being headed by three-time winners of Cupcake Wars and baking Beyonce’s birthday cake. They’re also friends of the Bicycle Coalition and were instrumental in the creation of this ride (co-owner Nima Etemadi came up with the punny name!).
- Fishtown’s Philly Style Bagels are hailed as some of the best bagels in Philadelphia, and according to some, they’re only good bagels in Philadelphia. They’re known for their savory offerings, so we’re excited to see what they’ll make for the ProfiteROLL!
- Hungry Pigeon – This charming Queen Village spot is known for its pastry, securing a 2018 James Beard Award nomination for Outstanding Pastry Chef and snagging the title of best croissants in Philly from Billy Penn.
- Benna’s West – This much-loved South Philly cafe always has delicious sweets on offer, and they’ll be sharing something special with ProfiteROLL attendees.
- Performance Bicycle is offering free 24 point inspections to help you tune up for the 15th, and will help you train with beginner (15-20 miles) and intermediate (30 – 40 miles) rides every Saturday at 8:45 AM. On the day of the ride, they’ll have treats donated by South Philly’s vegan diner, The Tasty.
- Federal Donuts – The beloved Cook N Solo (Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook) doughnut shop will be distributing treats to riders at their location on North 7th Street in the East Poplar neighborhood.
- Elixr (featuring treats by Machine Shop Boulangerie) – Katie Lynch and Emily Riddell, the chefs behind Machine Shop, were named in Zagat’s 10 Under-the-Radar Chefs to Know in Philly. Their pastries will be available at Elixr Coffee Roasters.
- Rittenhouse bistro Parc Restaurant features French pastries, including profiteroles- will they honor the ride name’s inspiration, or offer something unexpected? Register to find out!
- Day by Day – The Rittenhouse caterer and brunch spot that Craig LaBan noted was “totally packed with regulars, and I can see why,” will be offering sweet treats.
- Kin– the Boutique on Pine Street- will have cookies from Jones.
- Our latest addition to the route is James Beard Award winning Vetri Cucina, which will have something special for all ride attendees.
- Johnny Brenda’s – Last we checked, chef/owner Paul Kimport, who is hosting our post ride celebration at Johnny Brenda’s, was contemplating making Saint Honoree’s in honor of those riders collecting the most passport stamps on their registration forms. Coalition staff will be in attendance from 11am to 2pm, selling t-shirts and distributing swag. Whipped Bakeshop– Best of Philly winner for “Best Cupcake”- has a gift certificate for one lucky ride finisher.
Speaking of brunch, we’ve got an amazing lineup of chefs for our pastry tribute brunch in memory of Emily on the following Sunday, April 22nd at Le Cheri.
