Thanks to everyone who joined us for Bike to Work and Wherever Day 2026 with Independence Blue Cross and Philly Bike Train! We had the highest recorded attendance, flooding Dilworth Plaza with almost 100 riders from a combined 5 locations across the city.

For the second year, we joined forces with Philly Bike Train, a social commuting group that aims to break down barriers to bicycle commuting by making it easier to link up with others, share the road with friends, and get where you’re going safely. You can join Philly Bike Train year-round! Check out their schedule and routes at phillybiketrain.org.

We host this event every year to encourage biking for commuting, errands, and everyday transportation, and to highlight the importance of safe and affordable transportation options at a time when traffic violence continues to rise. According to 2025 PennDOT data, cyclist fatalities statewide increased from 19 in 2024 to 28 in 2025. Fatal crashes involving aggressive driving have also increased 31% since 2020. That is unacceptable.

The encouraging news is that we have strong partners at both the city and state levels who are fighting for safer streets every day to build the infrastructure our communities need to thrive. We were grateful to be joined by Council Members Jamie Gauthier, Rue Landau, Nicolas O’Rourke, and Mark Squilla, State Rep. Rick Krajewski, and Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi, who rode alongside us to experience both the joy and the realities of the way many Philadelphians get to work and wherever they need to go.

Events like this couldn’t happen without strong partnerships. Thank you to Independence Blue Cross for sponsoring the event and bringing the energy to Dilworth Park. Thank you to Indego for providing bikes to those who needed one and for being a year-round partner in expanding access to biking across Philadelphia; Bean2Bean coffee roasters for bringing coffee; Philly Bike Oracle for offering free safety checks, tire inflation, chain lubrication, and brake and shift adjustments; and Schwalbe Bike Tires and Philly Bike Ride for giving away prizes to some lucky registrants.

The next step in making our commutes safer? Legalizing parking-protected bike lanes in Pennsylvania. Read about our path to winning parking-protected bike lanes >> (Spoiler: the path to winning starts with you!)
