On Tuesday, October 7th, the members of the Circuit Trails Coalition joined Montgomery County Commissioners, Montgomery County Planning Commission, Norristown Council Members, and local partners to celebrate the ground breaking ceremony on the Trail Junction Center in Norristown. Once completed, the site will include a large multi-purpose flex space, a kitchenette, and other amenities, including bike parking and rain gardens, all in close proximity to the Schuylkill River Trail and the Norristown Transportation Center.
The vision for this project dates back to 2004, when Campbell Thomas & Co. prepared and published A Feasibility Study for Adaptive Reuse and Rehabilitation of a Railroad Freight Transfer Station, covering the site and building’s history, existing conditions, and recommendations for site development and proposed plans.
More than 20 years later, Montgomery County officials celebrated breaking ground on a $4.7 million project that will become a hub for commerce and entertainment for residents of Norristown and the many trail users who gather along the Schuylkill River Trail for transportation and recreation. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2026.
