Bicycle CoalitionWeekends are the best time to get on the bike, stretch your legs and hit the streets, trails, or even gravel roads. If you don’t have any plans and are up for traversing all three of these conditions, join the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia and Bike Chester County on Saturday, July 11th for our upcoming Explore the Circuit ride.

Sarah Clark Stuart, deputy director of the Bicycle Coalition will be leading the ride, which will gather at the Longford Park trailhead at 1:00pm and roll out at 1:15pm. This ride will be taking the group on 19 miles of trails along the Schuylkill River, through Pheonixville and Spring City and then back to Longford Park. The entire event will be roughly four hours, with a few informative stops and a pub stop at the tail end for some refreshments. Here’s a map of the ride:

For those who feel they aren’t up for the gravel portion of the ride, an alternate route will be offered. This is a great way to get out of the congested city streets end enjoy some clean summer air.

DIRECTIOINS TO LONGFORD PARK:

Driving:

Take US 422 to Oaks and exit at Egypt Rd. Head west on Egypt Rd (passing the shopping complex). In roughly 1.5 miles, turn left onto Longford Rd and in less than 1 mile, on the left, you will arrive at Longford Park with its fenced dog walk and open parking lot.

Transit + Bike:

OPTION A (5.2 miles bicycling)

Take SEPTA Bus Route 125 to the Valley Forge Visitor Center

From the bus stop take the bike path uphill behind the visitor center towards Route 23
Turn left on the Joseph Plumb Martin Trail
Cross Route 23 at County Line Rd (sign for bike/ped crossing to Betzwood) to Trooper Rd
On Trooper Rd follow signs to the Route 422 bridge crossing over the Schuykill River
Turn left onto the Schuylkill River Trail to the Longford Park trailhead

OPTION B (1.6 miles bicycling)

From the Morristown Transportation Center (Regional Rail and Norristown High Speed Line)

OR the King of Prussia Transit Center (Bus Routes 123,124 or 125)

Transfer to Bust Route 99 Phoenixvill
Exit the bus at the Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks (Station and North)
On your bike turn left on the side path along Station Ave to the Schuylkill River Trail
Turn Right on the Schuylkill River Trail to the Longford Park trailhead.
