Transport Cycles on Frankford Avenue
Firth & Wilson Transportation Cycles caters to the urban cyclist, specializing in selling and renting transportation, folding, cargo, and family bicycles at 1105 Frankford Avenue.
The shop offers Brooks saddle repair, a full stock of children’s equipment, as well as a full range of bike accessories and brands including Breezer, Brompton, Linus, Pashley, Pure Fix, Pure City, Simcoe, SE, Xtracycle, Yuba, Babboe, Gazelle, Nihola, and Larry Vs. Harry.
Fifth & Wilson offers discounts to Coalition members and a free tune up within 90 days of a bike purchase, and also provides the option for an entirely custom fabricated bicycle made by the shop owners under the labels David Wilson Industries (DWI) custom cargo bikes and Hanford Cycles custom frames.
Custom cargo bike
At the end of 2016, the shop applied for and received a Merchants Fund Grant to custom build 7 small-wheel cargo bikes adapted from a design plan by shop owner Dave. The frames have been cut, mitered and welded by Simon of Hanford Cycles, and will soon be finished by shop mechanics. The 20/20, the working title for the cargo bike, has a compact frame with 20 inch wheels, and cargo capacity in the front and rear. The bikes are currently towards the end of completion, and will hopefully hit the shelves within the coming month.
It should also be noted that Firth & Wilson has been an indispensable partner to the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and the great bicycling community over the years, helping out with our Cadence Youth Cycling program, and holding bicycle-centric events at their shop in Fishtown. Just this past year, they hosted a Philly bike courier history show and a Q&A led by Cyclocross Champion Jeremy Powers, in partnership with Cadence Youth Cycling.
