Tour de Towpath

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of D&R Canal State Park at this bike-run-walk event! This family friendly event has something for everyone. Enjoy our free canal festival with food, music and games. All participants and volunteers will receive a t-shirt and continental breakfast. 50- and 20-mmile riders and half marathon runners will also receive lunch.

A canal “towpath” is the hard-packed gravel path that runs parallel to the canal. Before the day of steam locomotion, canal boats were towed by mules led by “mule tenders” along the route, hence the term “towpath.” Today, the D&R Canal towpath is a remarkably flat recreation pathway for bicycling, running, and walking.

D&R Canal Watch will use registration proceeds to the costs of the public event and outreach, and to fund improvements to the D&R Canal State Park in the Trenton area.
