South Philadelphia, Old City, Riverwards
Councilman Mark Squilla
Bike lanes are important, and a new mayoral administration and City Council means a new opportunity for bike lanes in Philadelphia’s first district, which represents parts of South Philadelphia, Old City, Northern Liberties, Fishtown, Kensington, and Port Richmond. In addition to providing a space for bicyclists on Philadelphia streets, bike lanes have proven to improve road safety and conditions for all road users: Bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists.
There are a number of corridors and intersections that have been identified as ready for bike lanes and new infrastructure in the Council District. They include Fourth and Fifth Streets, South 13th Street and Washington Avenue in South Philadelphia, and Second Street.
