At yesterday’s City Council session, Councilman Kenyatta Johnson and Mark Squilla introduced four ordinances necessary to allow the Streets Department to “flip” the river-to-river bike lane with the parking lanes on Spruce and Pine streets when it repaves the roads this coming fall.

  • Bill No. 180512: “An Ordinance revising parking regulations on Pine Street between South Broad Street and South Front Street.”
  • Bill No. 180513: “An Ordinance revising parking regulations on Spruce Street between South 22nd Street and 15th Street.”
  • Bill No. 180514: “An Ordinance revising parking regulations on Spruce Street between South Broad Street and South 2nd Street.”
  • Bill No. 180516: “An Ordinance revising parking regulations on Pine Street between South Broad Street and South 22nd Street.”

These bills will have their first hearing before the Streets & Services Committee on Monday, June 4th at 1:00 PM.

We want Council chambers to be full of supporters, so please consider taking some time out of your day to come to the hearing.

Center City Residents Association sent a letter of support for the plan, and Washington West Civic Association voted in favor of advancing the ordinances for public hearing.  According to one of our members, only 12 out of 22 of Society Hill Civc Association’s Board voted in favor of a resolution that opposed the plan.

How can you help? If you want to testify, send an email to Sean McMonagle: Sean.McMonagle@phila.gov

Can’t attend the hearing? Stay tuned: we will provide more options for showing your support next week in a blog post.
