Looking back to this summer, nearly 200 letters were submitted requesting the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) to include the recommendations suggested by the members of the Circuit Trails Coalition in support of the regions commitment to advance the development of the Circuit Trails network. Today, the DVRPC Board adopted the region’s updated Connections 2050 Plan for the region which includes the Circuit Trails network as fully funded for completion in all counties in Southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey by 2040. The Plan estimates an allocation of $1.096 billion required over the life of the plan to complete the remaining 385 miles of Circuit Trails that are currently in progress, in the pipeline, or planned for completion by 2040.
To date, there are 418 miles of Circuit Trails completed throughout the region, including 88 miles that are in design or under construction, many of which are fully funded and are nearing their completion in the coming years. This marks the updated total to 506 miles of Circuit Trails! As the network approaches 500+ miles, the Circuit Trails Coalition is reflecting on all the biking, walking, exploring, connecting and celebrating that have fueled so many notable moments on the Circuit Trails. To celebrate this progress, the Circuit Trails Coalition is collecting 500 moments, and they want your voice to be part of it. Whether you’ve enjoyed a sunny walk, a long ride, a peaceful moment or a community event, they’d love to hear it. Share your moment.
The members of the Coalition will celebrate the progress made over the years and invite you to save the date for a free event on Wednesday, November 12th in the evening at the Cherry Street Pier (more details coming soon) that will highlight your moments and keep the momentum going as they look ahead.
The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is a founding member of the Circuit Trails Coalition and leads the movement to make every bicycle ride safe, to empower youth and adults to ride, and to foster a ridership that reflects the diversity of the region.
