In southeast Pennsylvania, city and county officials recently broke ground on the Highland Avenue Trail Connector in the City of Chester in Delaware County and the Neshaminy Greenway Trail in Middletown Township in Bucks County. Once complete, these two segments will bring nearly 1.4 miles of new Circuit Trails into the 850+ mile multi-use trail network.

Highlighted in red on the map above, the Highland Avenue Trail Connector located in the City of Chester in Delaware County will connect W. 2nd Street to the Riverwalk Trail along Subaru Park. This project will transform a part of Highland Avenue into a multi-use trail that connects route 291, a future connection to the East Coast Greenway and the Circuit Trails network to the Delaware River waterfront. Pennsylvania Environmental Council, East Coast Greenway Alliance and Schuylkill River Greenways joined the celebration among special guests, including Stefan Roots, City of Chester Mayor, Gina Burritt, Director of Delaware County Planning Commission, Delaware County Council members, Elaine Schaeffer, Dr. Monica Taylor and Christine Ruether, and many local supporters.

The map shown above highlights the details for the 1 mile trail within Core Creek Park in Middletown Township in Bucks County with the goal of linking existing park trails to the intersection of Woodbourne and Ellis Roads. The extension will traverse a tributary of Core Creek and will include the installation of a floating boardwalk, a first of its kind in Bucks County. Construction is set to begin in 2025 with a completion date scheduled for 2026. More coverage on the recently celebrated groundbreaking can be accessed on the county’s website here.
