We are excited to announce the return of the Bike Explorers program at Lewis Elkins Elementary School for the Spring 2026 season. After a highly successful pilot in Spring 2025, Bike Explorers is coming back with an expanded format to reach more students and continue building confidence, skills, and joy through biking.
The Spring 2026 season will run from March 16, 2026 through June 5, 2026, and will feature two six week cohorts, allowing more students the opportunity to participate. Bike Explorers introduces elementary school students to the fundamentals of bicycling while encouraging physical activity, teamwork, and a positive relationship with movement in a supportive and engaging environment.

Henridell Davermand, Program Coordinator for Bike Explorers, recently met with staff at Lewis Elkins Elementary to prepare for the upcoming season. School partners shared their excitement about welcoming the program back and are eager to see students continue to grow as riders this spring.
The program’s impact has also been recognized beyond the school community. Last fall, as one of three Philadelphia mission-based programs highlighted, Bike Explorers was presented by Lana Harshaw at the Ideas We Should Scale Showcase. She highlighted the mission and impact of the program and how the fundamental skill of riding a bike can contribute to a happier, healthier, and safer community. The presentation showcased how Bike Explorers supports youth development by increasing access to biking and building confidence at an early age, and the conference provided an energizing opportunity to share the program’s success with a wider audience.

With strong school partnerships and continued community support, Bike Explorers is ready for another impactful season. We look forward to returning to Lewis Elkins Elementary this spring and continuing to support young riders as they explore new skills and build confidence on and off the bike.
