This past Sunday, BCYC officially launched its mountain biking season with a trip out to the Phoenixville XC Treetangle at Yeager’s Farm & Market, hosted by our amazing friends at More Kids on Bikes. While we couldn’t bring the full crew this time, Mamady (BCYC All-Star and YAC member) and Coach Lucas represented us in the best possible way—on and off the course.

Mamady, who had never ridden the course before, barely had five minutes to get a feel for the terrain before lining up at the start. But that didn’t stop him from rising to the challenge. He raced hard, pushed himself, and still found the time to stop mid-race to help a fellow rider with a mechanical issue.

Coach Lucas also had his own wild start. After barely making it in time to register, he jumped into the lineup at the last minute, riding a heavier steel-frame hardtail instead of his usual carbon fiber full-suspension setup. Despite the curveballs, he tore through the course and came within 15 seconds of the top spot—bringing home a well-earned second-place finish.

After the dust settled, we capped off the day with a copious post-race meal—the kind that only a good ride can earn—and reconnected with some familiar faces. It was great running into so many friends and supporters of BCYC out on the course and in the crowd. These kinds of moments remind us how tight-knit and welcoming the cycling community really is.

A huge thank you to More Kids on Bikes and our good friend Blake Tart for the invitation and warm welcome. Blake’s energy and dedication to the cycling community—whether he’s DJing a PICL NICA event or organizing grassroots cyclocross races—never goes unnoticed. His work continues to create opportunities and spaces for young riders to push themselves, connect, and grow.

Looking forward to a fun, fast, and fearless fall. The BCYC MTB season is officially on.
