Popular DJ June Rodriguez, 54, was struck from behind by a driver while attempting to make a left turn onto North 56th from Lancaster Ave early Saturday morning. According to several news outlets, June was cycling west on Lancaster Ave and attempting to turn left on 56th Street when he was struck by the driver of a red SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee. The driver did not stop, and no arrests have been made. It is unclear whether the victim was in the travel lane or crossing over from the bike lane. June was the seventh cyclist killed on Philadelphia Streets by a driver in 2025.
PA State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta posted a plea on Instagram asking for anyone with information to contact the Philadelphia Police at 215-846-8477.
A String of Hit-and-Run Crashes
The crash is the latest in a series of vulnerable road users struck and killed by hit-and-run drivers in the past month. Just 6 hours earlier, a 63-year-old woman was struck and killed at Whitaker and Wyoming Avenues in Juniata Park. In late November, two women were struck and killed by speeding drivers in two separate crashes on the 4 lane section of West Market Street near Drexel University. On November 20th 48-year-old Meaza Brown was fatally struck at 33rd and Market while walking to work. The vehicle was found, but an arrest has not been made. On November 28th Rosa Mar Espinosa Rodas, 41 was struck and killed by a driver, Shamir Miller, who has been charged with murder, vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter.
